Charging at home is the cheapest and most convenient way to run an electric car. We connect you with qualified electricians who install home chargers safely and properly.
A home charger lets you plug in overnight and wake up to a full battery, often on a cheaper off-peak tariff. It is faster and safer than a standard three pin plug, which is not designed for long, heavy loads. Many chargers also come with an app so you can schedule charging and track how much electricity you use.
The government's OZEV EV chargepoint grant has changed over the years. It is currently aimed mainly at people who rent their home or live in flats, rather than owner occupiers in houses with off-street parking. Eligibility rules can change, so your electrician can check what applies to you before installation.
The electrician will check your supply and consumer unit to make sure your home can handle the extra load, then agree the best spot for the charger, usually on an outside wall near where you park. The charger is fitted on its own dedicated, protected circuit, tested and certified. Most installs are completed in half a day. If your fuse board is old, a consumer unit upgrade may be recommended first.
Most modern home chargers use a Type 2 connector, which works with the vast majority of electric and plug-in hybrid cars sold in the UK and Ireland, including Tesla, Nissan, Kia, Hyundai, Volkswagen, BMW, MG and many more.
EV ownership is growing fast across Belfast and Lisburn, from new developments on the edge of the city to commuter homes in the Lagan Valley. Send us a WhatsApp with your area, your car and a photo of your fuse board, and we will connect you with a trusted, NICEIC registered installer.
